Shakespeare Sketch – ‘A Small Rewrite’

A very funny sketch, performed live on stage, taking the mickey out of the famous “To be or not to be” soliloquy from Hamlet. You might recognise Hugh Laurie, now of ‘House’ fame, and Mr Bean himself, Rowan Atkinson.

Very funny.

Miquita Oliver talks Poetry

Here, Miquita Oliver discusses Lord Byron’s poem ‘She Walks In Beauty’. It’s always been a favourite poem of mine, but for some reason Miquita misses out the first stanza in this video. So here it is:

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

DJ Nihal compares poetry, and William Blake, with Hip Hop

William Blake’s work went largely unappreciated during his lifetime, but his influence today is huge. Many artists, poets, writers and musicians cite his work as having a huge effect on their own creative output. Nihal puts it well: “Such an interesting guy – do not deny yourself the right to find out about William Blake”.

Kate Tempest (Excentral Tempest) – Cannibal Kids

I only discovered this girl a few days ago. There’s something mesmerising about her delivery and the sound of the words she uses had me hooked. And the line “they let daggers fall through blood soaked fingers” is vaguely reminiscent of something, isn’t it?
